Women’s Sprints

Sunday saw an exciting day of multi-lane, cross-conference racing for the east coast schools in Worcester, Massachusetts. The Varsity Eight was dominated by a strong Rutgers outfit, storming to victory in a time of 6:47, six seconds ahead of Brown, finishing in 6:53, who in turn were three seconds ahead of Ivy League rivals Radcliffe. The Scarlet Knights swept the competition to win the Willing Trophy, however notable upsets came from Radcliffe, who notably bested Brown in the Varsity Four, 0.1 seconds behind gold.

University of Central Florida v University of Miami

The University of Central Florida has had a remarkable regular season so far and I have no doubt that this weekend’s racing compounded their confidence, perhaps officially becoming the fastest team in Florida after sweeping their dual against Miami. Although only the NCAA standard boats raced, all three events saw margins in excess of 19 seconds, the largest of which came for the Varsity 4, winning by 23 seconds  in a time of 7:59.9.

University of Pennsylvania v Princeton University

With the Ivy League Championships two weeks away, Penn and Princeton took to Lake Carnegie to conclude the regular season. Princeton saw a sweep at home, winning the Varsity Eight by an impressive 17 seconds in an outstanding time of 6:01.4, albeit in a steady tailwind. The two squads will now be preparing for the league championships, as the Ivy League has emerged this season as the most competitive conference in the nation, with six teams in the top 20 rankings.
