US Collegiate Men’s Rowing Review – Week 7

Explore JRN's US Coverage

As all grows quiet in the leadup to Eastern Sprints next weekend, racing was sparse for the collegiate men’s teams. However, some multilane racing across the country has helped crews prepare well one last time before the postseason begins

Dad Vail Regatta

As the largest collegiate race in the US, the Dad Vail Regatta boasts an exciting and varied field of crews from single sculls to championship eights, and this year was no exception. The Richard O’Brien- James Hanna Trophy was ultimately seized by Temple University by little more than a third of a second over local rivals La Salle University in a time of 5:37.11. Claiming third place was the Drexel Dragons, nine seconds behind. These crews all posted competitive times and can hold their heads high moving into next week, where they will have to face top ranked teams.

National Invitational Rowing Championships

The best of Division Three Rowing can be found at the National Invitational Rowing Championships. The Men’s Varsity Eight was taken by Trinity College in a time of 5:39.21, with Bates College and Tufts University coming in two seconds behind to take silver and bronze respectively. Notably, these crews beat the only Division One team present: MIT, who claimed fifth. This weekend solidified the bids to IRAs, allowing Tufts to claim an at large bid. All eyes now fall on the IRA championships in three weeks, with crews returning home to refine lineups and add speed.
