U19 World Rowing Championships – Australian Men’s Pair Preview

The 2025 Australian junior men’s pair is a combination that has stunned onlookers at every opportunity this season. Each time they made the journey ‘over east’, they dominated. First, winning both the U19 and U21 pairs at the NSW championships, then following that up at nationals with wins in the junior pair and four that would have been marked as ‘easily’ verdicts at Henley Royal Regatta. Interestingly, in the heat of the four (with Sydney’s Maloney twins), they were on track to go comfortably under six minutes before winding things off at the 1250m mark.

Both Jack Hansen-Knarhoi (Fremantle Rowing Club) and Lachlan Brown (West Australian Rowing Club) have rowed together for multiple years, first at Trinity College and then in 2025 in the pair. The advantage of familiarity and not needing to relocate as part of this campaign cannot be overstated, and it will serve them well as they aim to compete at the pointy end of the pairs field in Lithuania.
