From the very first time they took to the race course this year, there was little doubt that Lucy Yabsley and Patricia Boland would be selected as the combination to compete for the U19 World Rowing Championships. Whilst you have to go back to 2013 to find the last time Australia medalled in this event, this combination’s extended time together will likely bring added confidence that they could break that drought.

Lucy Yabsley – Ascham School (NSW)

Making her return to the Australian team after finishing sixth in the quad last year, Lucy has gone from strength to strength this season, bagging silver medals at the NSW and Australian Championships in the U19 single, as well as golds in the U19 double and schoolgirl single. Balancing her time between training out of Ascham and Glebe, Lucy has undoubtedly made the most of the opportunities presented to her this year, and brings key experience in building this double toward Lithuania.

Patricia Boland – Loreto Normanhurst (NSW)

For those paying attention to junior sculling in NSW, it won’t surprise to see Patricia Boland making her Australian team debut in Trakai this year. After dominating the U17 scene last year, Patti has made a flawless step up to the U19 category in 2025, claiming two national titles in March for Glebe, whilst also putting on impressive performances as a part of the resurgent Loreto Normanhurst program. Having rowed alongside Yabsley for several years at Glebe with coach Oli Klotz in tow, Boland couldn’t have asked for a more seamless debut in Green and Gold.
