Tom created JRN in 2013. What was once a blog about junior rowing in the UK is now a global media platform focused on growing and enhancing the sport of rowing. Tom's primary focus at JRN is supporting his leadership team, ensuring commercial momentum and building for the future. Tom works in private equity on a day-to-day basis at Bain & Company.
Ed first joined the JRN junior team in 2018 ahead of National Schools’ Regatta. Over the years since, Ed has worked across several roles including building and leading our opinions and social media teams, and developing our photography group. Ed’s work at JRN now focuses on enabling our content teams through building and scaling our systems, tools and processes. Ed is a medical student in London, regular co-host on our podcast, race commentator and occasional coach.
Rosie started rowing in 2012 at the City of Bristol Rowing Club, after being inspired by the Olympics to take up the sport. Rosie rowed there for seven years and was a part of both the junior and senior section. Rosie led the Opinions Team for the 2021/22 season, the Columnists Team for the 2022/23 season and is now responsible for people-focused initiatives across JRN. She leads on all talent acquisition, retention, organisational development, training and culture.
Fergus started rowing at George Watson’s College in Edinburgh. Fergus attended Newcastle University for five years and served as Athletic Union Officer in his final 12 months. Having graduated from St Mary’s University, Twickenham with a Masters in Journalism, Fergus is one of the sport’s leading pundits and his voice is instantly recognisable as the charismatic host of The End of the Island podcast. Fergus leads our global podcast efforts across four separate shows.
Amy started coxing in 2019 with her Cambridge college, going on to steer the Cambridge University Lightweight Women during the 21/22 season. Alongside working full-time, she spent a year during the 22/23 season covering women’s events for the Senior and Student Team at JRN, and moved into the role of Head of UK Racing Content for the 23/24 season. After serving two terms as Head of UK Racing Content, Amy now steps into a global role and will assume control of all racing content efforts worldwide.
Alex is our Global Head of The Catch, managing the opinions writers and columnists. She started rowing in 2010 at Durham Amateur Rowing Club and had a successful junior career on the national and regional scene. Having joined the JRN writing team in 2021, Alex assumed control of all Catch-related content in 2023. She works full-time in UK private equity and is a Master’s graduate of King’s College London.
Anna began her rowing career in a boat shed of ten people, in one of the furthermost points of Queensland, Australia. Following a move to Melbourne, she joined Mercantile Rowing Club and represented her home state of Queensland in the 2020/2021/2022 Queens Cup Interstate Regatta. She joined the JRN Australian Racing Content Team in 2024, before stepping into the Head of Australian Racing Content in 2025. Outside of JRN, Anna is a full-time SEO content writer.
Olivia is a five-time international medallist for Canada, including 2023 Pan American Games gold in the Eight and silver in the Pair. She has also won numerous club titles including Head of the Charles in 2021 and five Canadian Henley golds. Olivia wrote on the International team for 2024/25, and now takes on the lead role for Canadian content. She is a full time process engineer in the energy industry.
James comes from a British background but has rowed and lived in both the Netherlands and the UK. Now studying and rowing in Amsterdam, James started covering Dutch student and men’s rowing in 2024. He’s now using his experience to lead the Dutch content team, starting with the 2025/26 season.
Jane started coxing with Dublin University Ladies Boat Club, going on to become Club Captain in 2024/25. A graduate of Trinity College Dublin, where she studied Law, Jane is currently a sabbatical officer of the University, serving as the first female Chair of the Trinity Sport Union. Following on from her first full season with JRN as part of the Ireland Content Team, she now steps into the Regional Leadership Team as Head of Irish Racing Content
Starting in 2020, Lawrence spent three years rowing at Hinksey Sculling School. After a rewarding junior career, he took a year out of his studies to train and race in New Zealand for the 23/24 season. It was at this time he also began writing for JRN as part of the junior team. Rounding out the season with national medals in both NZ and the UK, Lawrence takes the reigns of the New Zealand Racing Content team for the 25/26 season after spending last year editing in that region.
After first dabbling in rowing aged 13, Lara’s love for the sport has only gone from strength to strength. Most recently, she enjoyed success with City of Oxford RC, where she captained a record-breaking season for the club’s senior women. Following two seasons as a writer for JRN, she now takes on the Head of UK Racing role alongside studying for a PhD in Cancer Science at the University of Oxford and rowing for Oxford University Boat Club.
Rachel's junior rowing career included representation at Henley Royal Regatta and wins at numerous races, including the Vesta Scullers Head of the River. In five years of collaboration with JRN, Rachel has led the junior and opinions teams alongside a year spent writing. In 24/25 and in her second year at Harvard University, she steps into the newly-created Head of International role to run all of our non-UK racing content.
Having learnt to row in 2020, Becca went on to captain Newnham College Boat Club and take part in the GB Women's Development Programme. Becca joined JRN as an opinions writer in 2022, before obtaining her NCTJ gold standard journalism qualification. Becca will step up in 2025 to take on the role of Opinions Lead.
Ryan learnt to row at the University of York, winning one of their first ever medals at BUCS Regatta in 2022. He has since rowed for The Queen’s College Oxford and Molesey Boat Club. He is a qualified British Rowing Umpire, and works with the Henley Royal Regatta Charitable Trust. Having started at JRN as a writer, Ryan now leads all of our Columnist efforts.
Phoebe is a former Captain of Boats at Headington School Oxford Boat Club and had a vastly successful junior career, winning the inaugural Prince Philip Challenge Trophy at Henley Royal Regatta in 2021. After contributing to our junior and senior teams for four years - as both a writer and editor - Phoebe steps into our people team alongside Rosie to lead on all efforts related to talent and culture.
Scarlett began coxing at Emanuel School in London and now coxes at Newcastle University, where she also serves as Publicity Officer. She joined JRN’s social media team in the 2024/25 season and has since stepped into the role of Social Media Lead, helping to direct the wider team, plan posting schedules, and align JRN's social media strategy. Scarlett aims to brings energy and organisation to JRN’s growing digital presence.
Francesca has just finished her fourth year at Marlow Rowing Club, after picking up the sport in 2021 to stay active after lockdown. She joined JRN in 2023, writing for their junior team, and moves into an editorial role for the 25/26 season while also heading to university to study medicine at the University of Oxford in the autumn.
Jim joined Newark Rowing Club, Nottinghamshire, in 2020 and has been a junior writer at JRN since 2023. A junior editor for the 2025/2026 season, he is looking to continue rowing at the University of Cambridge - which he joins in the autumn of 2025 - after a brief hiatus during his exam period.
Poppy began rowing in 2020 at Stratford-upon-Avon Boat Club and joined the JRN team in the 2022/23 season as a junior writer. Over the past three years, she’s combined writing with commentary at national events and work at Henley Royal Regatta. Now entering her fourth year with the team, she has stepped into the role of junior editor for the 2025/26 season.
Having come from a family with a large history of both British and Argentine rowing, Amelia learnt to row at Avon County Rowing Club near Bath. She joined JRN in 2022 as a way to share her love for the sport and spent two seasons as a writer before being promoted to take on joint junior editorship responsibilities. As well as writing, she commentated at the National Schools’ Regatta in 2023. Amelia has just finished studying for her A Levels and will be going on to university in September.
Minty began writing for JRN in 2020, having heard of the opportunity from a fellow rower at Headington School. She went on to write for British Rowing and attend Henley Royal Regatta in 2021 and 2022. She was promoted to floating editor for the 23/24 season, editing both junior and senior previews, and reprises the role this season. She begins studying at the University of Exeter in September 2024, where she looks forward to picking up rowing again.
Having learnt to row as a J13 with LEH, Darcie went on to win championship eights with the school in 2019 before her junior career was cut short by the pandemic. After graduating from Durham University, she returned to coach LEH for a year and simultaneously joined JRN as a writer for the senior team. Now training to become a solicitor in London, Darcie gladly continues her connection to the sport as she steps into the role of a senior editor for the 2025/26 season.
Involved in the sport of rowing since 2012 as an athlete and coach, Chris now finds himself more at home in the finish tower, commentating major Australian regattas since 2019. A journalism student, Chris joined the JRN team in 2024, covering all things Australian rowing. In 2025, Chris co-founded Rowing Down Under and stepped into an editorial position as part of the fast-growing Australian Racing Content team.
Nick joined the JRN team in August 2024. He currently works in Media and Communications at Rowing Australia and has been involved in the sport for over 11 years. A former rower at The King’s School, Sydney, Nick went on to coach at his old school for four seasons, guiding two crews to Head of the River victories. He later coached and raced at St Andrew’s College, Sydney, and now focuses on sharing stories from across Australia’s rowing community with a global audience.
Claire learned to row in 2013, following her older sister's route to Neptune Rowing Club in Dublin. From there, she has represented Ireland internationally from 2016 to 2021 before taking time away to row at Oxford Brookes University from 2023-2025 culminating in two BUCS championship eight titles, a Henley Women's Regatta championship eight victory and the Remenham Challenge Cup before rounding off the 2025 season with a senior Irish Championship title in the single. She joined JRN for the 2024/25 season as a writer and now steps up to Editor.
Niall joined the Irish writing team in 2024, covering Irish racing for the 2025 season. Having rowed for three different clubs in three cities in Ireland, at junior, student, and senior levels, Niall was keen to share his knowledge of Irish rowing with JRN readers. Niall joined the editorial team for the 2026 season.
Ben is a current member of the increasingly successful King’s College School Boat Club, and joins the editorial team as he finishes off his studies at school. He joined the JRN team for the 23/24 season, writing as part of the junior team, before joining the editorial team for the 24/25 period. He takes on dual editorial responsibility for the US team in 2025.
Fraser joined the JRN team in 2022 and helped launch our written and podcast coverage of the collegiate racing circuit in 2023, while based in the United States. Known for his near-encyclopaedic knowledge of the rowing scene, he continues to contribute to other areas of JRN’s coverage, including with the UK and World Rowing teams, establishing himself as a leading voice in both British and international rowing. He steps into an editorial role for the 2025/26 season.
Felix began rowing in 2018 in New Zealand, representing St. Peter’s, Cambridge. Originally from Hong Kong, he also raced competitively there in both flatwater and coastal rowing. He is currently based in Christchurch, finishing his undergraduate studies at the University of Canterbury and exploring postgraduate options. Alongside rowing, he has worked extensively in media and communications. Having joined the JRN team in 2024, Felix steps into an editorial role for the 25/26 season.
Hailing from Aotearoa New Zealand, Saskia first picked up an oar in 2012 at St Margaret’s College and was immediately hooked. After school she went on to row for Otago University Rowing Club and Avon Rowing Club before switching to coaching for three seasons at Columba College. After a return to the sport with Avon in 2023/24 she relocated to London and competed in the Wargrave A crew for London Rowing Club for 2024/25. She also joined the JRN Opinions team and looks forward to returning as an Opinions Writer, as well as joining the New Zealand editorial team, alongside competing this season.
