JRN are delighted to announce that Jack Rafferty is our Overseas Crew of the Year. In 2025, Jack swept the sculling events at the Irish National Rowing Championships before going on to win a sensational gold medal at the U19 World Rowing Championships in the double alongside Jonah Kirby. This was Ireland’s first world gold in this age group and marks Jack out as a legacy-creator for future Irish rowing talent.
Jack commented: “This season has been one I’ll always remember, and one I’ll learn from for years to come. I achieved every goal I set out at the start of the year — from winning at the Irish Championships to earning a medal at the U19 World Rowing Championships. While I worked hard to reach these milestones, the people around me and the environments I was part of truly made the difference.”
“Most of my victories came in doubles and quads, not just singles. I was fortunate to have excellent teammates at both club and international level — we pushed each other, grew together, and constantly improved. I also had incredible coaching support throughout the year. We were never left wondering what to do; we always had clear goals and strong guidance, both in the club and on the national team.”
“A real highlight was the double. Training and racing together was thoroughly enjoyable — we pushed each other, worked for each other, and winning gold was an unforgettable, surreal moment. It took a while to sink in, but I never doubted our ability on the water. Surpassing our own expectations made the achievement even more special. It’s also inspiring to see Irish rowing growing stronger, with more medals being won and surrounded by successful athletes in the centre who motivate us every day.”
“Although I’m still a junior, I know I have a long way to go in my rowing career. I don’t feel I’m a perfect athlete yet in any aspect, but I’m determined to keep working and striving toward that goal in the years ahead.”
