The 97th Stotesbury Cup Regatta is the “largest scholastic regatta in the world” held annually on or near the legendary Schuylkill River, Philadelphia, in the shadow of the legendary Boathouse Row. Attending the regatta this year are 178 schools, 4,774 athletes, and 919 boats. The 2025 Stotesbury Cup will again bring the very best scholastic boys’ quads together to compete for the championships. Entries nationally attend this prestigious regatta to perfect their race strategy with the goal of a season-ending podium appearance. Winning at Stotesbury, given its historic legacy, is the achievable goal of the prepared.
Ridgewood Crew
Ridgewood returns to Stotesbury after finishing second at the Philadelphia Scholastic Rowing Championships. The boat speed is there; this could be the year. Always competitive, Ridgewood is focused on the podium this year.
Malvern Preparatory School
The boys from Malvern finished second in the quad at Stotesbury in 2024 and recently won the Philadelphia Scholastic Rowing Championship by four seconds. This is a solid harbinger of a podium finish. Boat speed, culture, athletes, coaches—all here for 2025.
The Haverford School
The Haverford crew finished first last year at Stotesbury and placed fourth in the 2025 Philadelphia Scholastics. This programme is focused on learning and building. They are clearly a favourite for the podium, and I am confident they will live up to the expectations.
Other Mentions
Seton Hall Preparatory, Burnt Hills and Ridley College, round out the top talent for the podium. The field is very fast for 2025 but all of the programmes are building a rowing culture of excellence and incremental progress toward an attainable goal and a podium appearance in 2025.
Prediction
The Final Call and Order: Malvern Preparatory School should leverage their experience and current speed for a first-place finish. Other programs including The Haverford School, Ridgewood Crew, Seton Hall, Germantown Friends and Germantown Academy will battle it out for the remaining podium positions.
