Even though the most important race of the season for single sculls took place almost a month ago at the Hollandia Roeiwedstrijden and the Dutch Championships for small boats, the Raceroei Regatta still welcomes a lot of successful rowers who will race each other. The Raceroei Regatta is also a race where different crews can qualify for the FISU World Rowing Championships and the EUC (European University Championships). Let us look at the competing crews who will vye for that precious medal.
Lisa Keurentjes
Having begun her journey in 2016 at Proteus-Eretes, Lisa Keurentjes has had a long and successful rowing career. Since then, she has competed at the national level every year. Besides that, she participated in the U23 World Rowing Championships. After that, she continued to row in the lightweight division for women. However, she showed at multiple races that she can participate at the openweight level too, and not without merit.
Tosca Kettler
Another former lightweight lady who races easily alongside the openweights is Tosca Kettler from Utrecht. With all her international experience, she will likely use this race to qualify for another international race. It would be no surprise if she would even finish in the top three at the FISU World Rowing Championships.
Anna Sanders
Almost four years younger than her opponents, Anna Sanders is a newer face in the women’s elite field. This, however, does not mean that she lacks experience. She has rowed quite successfully in almost every boat category in the past three years. In the past few races, she focused on the single sculls, but unfortunately, she did not have apparent success. Maybe the Raceroei is the place for her for her first elite single sculls medal?
Prediction
Because of all the experience Lisa and Tosca have, it will probably be a battle between the two of them. Tosca is well known for her determination, so this will be convenient to push herself past Lisa’s bowball. The only disadvantage Lisa and Tosca have at the Willem-Alexander course as former light ladies is the wind, which can be quite heavy. When that happens, Anna has to use that condition to her advantage.
