The 2025 Race Roei Regatta, held outside Rotterdam at the Willem Alexander Baan (WAB), will be the qualification event for Dutch crews aiming to race at the FISU Championships. For many crews, this will be their first 2km race in the combinations they are developing for Henley Royal Regatta. The WAB is renowned for wind and rough water, and this weekend seems no different, as crews expect a light headwind.
A Laga/Skøll combination won last year’s event. That crew will not continue this year, but Laga has entered a very strong eight. Several athletes, including Lotte Jansen and Elke Schokking, were part of last year’s winning crew and are coming off strong performances in the pair at the NK Klein. Several athletes have started as juniors, so this crew brings depth and experience.
Aegir have formed their eight by combining their two coxless fours. These crews will also be racing in the fours, but the eight is being developed with The Island Challenge Cup in mind. This will be their first race in the elite category for most of these athletes, so we can expect an aggressive start from them as they aim to compete with more seasoned crews.
Nereus have entered their second eight into this event. After strong performances in the coxless four over the past two months, they have shifted focus to the eight. The crew consists mainly of second-year athletes, but includes experienced seniors such as Charlotte Russel, who will help lead this developing boat. This lineup is expected to be a regular feature as Nereus builds towards Henley Women’s Regatta as their peak goal for the season.
Preview
You can expect Laga to lead this race, as they have serious depth and experience. Even without Willemijn Mulder, who stroked their eight eight at the Hollandia, Laga should be strong enough to hold off the competition.
