Since we are approximately halfway through the spring season of ’25, people are preparing for the season’s final races. This can mean qualifying for Henley Royal Regatta, or the FISU World Rowing Championships. The Raceroei Regatta, organised by the club Laga from Delft, can be seen as an essential championship to know where you stand as a crew in a competitive field. It is therefore no surprise that there are so many registrations, even from people who are racing multiple categories in a day. Let us look at the contenders who will compete for that medal.
Orca
One boat racing the Raceroei, especially for the FISU World Rowing Championships, is the coxless four of the A. U. S. R. Orca. With two rowers who have won the Varsity (Vera Versteegh and Lydia Knevel) and two rowers from their so-called ‘topgroep’ (Rosemary Jansen and Isa Dignum) (the ‘topgroep’ is a special team for rising talents and the best performing athletes), this killer combination will not surprise us if they end with a top three position, or even with a medal.
Njord
A steady team in the coxless four field is the crew from the club Njord from Leiden. With four ladies who have rowed together for more than a year (they have won the development tournament in the season of 23 ’24 in the coxless four), the crew is perfectly aligned with each other.
Aegir
One of the best features a crew can have to improve their racing is constantly having another crew to spar with. The ladies of the G.S.R. Aegir are in luck, because the two boats (Aegir 1 and Aegir 2) are grouped in almost equal speed, which makes training sessions a lot more fun (and intense!). They told me that each training session changes who is the fastest boat. Just like for us, it is an exciting race for their intermural hierarchy.
Prediction
It is almost sure that the ladies from Orca will position themselves at the front of the field. However, Njord will be hot on their heels. For third place, one of the Aegir crews will likely fill this spot.
