Explore JRN's US Coverage

The long-awaited Texas vs Stanford took place this weekend, but with high-speed racing across the board, excitement is building as conference championships loom ever closer.

Dunn Bowl – Brown vs Cornell

Difficult conditions met No.7 Brown and Cornell in Providence, RI. Brown handled conditions extraordinarily well, winning across the board, taking home the Dunn Bowl as a result. In the V8 race, Brown finished with a time of 6:48.5, over 20 seconds ahead of Cornell. The Brown 2V8 crossed the finish line with the time 7:01.9, 30 seconds ahead of Cornell. Brown continued to dominate in the other categories as well, including the A4 which defeated Cornell with the largest margin (40.5 seconds). With these impressive results, it will be exciting to see Brown compete in Eastern Sprints, scheduled to take place on May 4th in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Longhorn Invitational – Stanford and Texas

Arguably the biggest rivalry in collegiate women’s rowing, No.2 Stanford and No.1 Texas went head-to-head at the Longhorn Invitational held in Austin, Texas. Due to weather difficulties, racing schedule was shortened, but Stanford took charge and dominated in all but one race against the 2024 NCAA National Champions. In the V8, a strong start from Stanford allowed them to lead by 1.8 seconds at the half-way, finishing with a time of 6:32.7, 5.5 seconds ahead of Texas. Likewise, in the 2V8, there was a 7 second lead against Texas at the 1000-meter mark, and they maintained this all the way to the finish, crossing the finish line with a time of 6:44.5. The B4 was the only race won by Texas as they beat Stanford with a time of 7:31.7, an 8 second margin. Stanford will gain much needed confidence from these results as they prepare for their race against Cal-Berkley on May 3rd. Texas will need to step up if they want to retain their NCAA championship title. But it will be interesting to see how both these programs progress in the remainder of the season.

Princeton, Tennessee, Ohio State and Syracuse

World record speed was clocked at the racing down at Lake Carnegie in Princeton, NJ in which a loaded field featuring No.5 Tennessee, No. 6 Princeton, No. 10 Syracuse, and No. 16 Ohio State faced each other in the 2000m course. Tennessee produced an impressive performance, winning four of its five races and posting a time of 5:57.6 in the V8, 4 seconds ahead of Princeton, 15 seconds ahead of Syracuse and over 25 seconds ahead of Ohio State. The margin increased in the 2V8, Tennessee conquering the race with a time of 6:11.6, 6 seconds ahead of Princeton and 17 seconds ahead of Syracuse. In the A4 and 3V8, Tennessee exhibited dominance against Princeton and Syracuse and narrowly lost in the B4, Princeton taking the win. Last weekend, Tennessee conquered No.3 Washington and No.7 Brown so it will be exciting to see how much more speed they can gain in 2 weeks as they prepare to fight for the SEC Championships on May 11.

The Case Cup – Radcliffe, Yale and BU 3V4/3V8

No.4 Yale retained the Case Cup this weekend, sweeping no.14 Radcliffe in all boat classes. With difficult and wet winds facing rowers on the Charles River, Yale clocked a time of 6:38.8, 12 seconds ahead of Radcliffe. Similarly, Yale finished 9 seconds ahead of Radcliffe in the 2V8 with a time of 6:46.4.  In the A4 and B4, Yale continued to dominate, finishing with 10 second and 11 second margin ahead of Radcliffe. Yale will now prepare for the Ivy League Championships in Pennsauken, NJ on May 17thand 18th, where they are favourites to take the league title.

Dale England Cup – Indiana, Michigan State., Notre Dame

No.17 Indiana took home the Dale England Cup for the 8th year in a row against Michigan State and Notre Dame on Lake Lemon in Bloomington, Indiana. The V8 posted a time of 7:26.7, 5 seconds ahead of Michigan State and 15 seconds ahead of Notre Dame. The 2V8 race saw similar margins as Indiana crossed the finish line with a time of 7:36.7, 6 seconds ahead of Notre Dame and 11 seconds over Michigan State. Likewise, Indiana edged ahead of Notre Dame and Michigan State to take the win. These results will give Indiana confidence going into next week for the Windermere Cup, hosted by Washington on May 3rd
