Marlow Regatta, held at Dorney Lake, is set to showcase some of the finest sculling talent in the UK, offering a crucial opportunity for crews to fine-tune their performance ahead of the Henley Royal Regatta. With such a competitive field, we can expect to see head-to-head battles and potentially set the stage for future Henley contenders.
Hinksey Sculling School
Both boats entered for Hinksey are among some of the fastest in the category. After an impressive performance in both the time trials and finals at the Metropolitan Regatta, with Herbie Austin-Baker and J. Harlow coming second to a Leander crew in the A-final, I believe that the boys from Hinksey will be looking to put down a quick time on a lake they know they can perform on.
Leander
Crews from Leander are looking to build on their success at the Metropolitan Regatta and the rest of the season. Leander A remains the same from last month, and with Bryn Ellery joining Metropolitan Regatta winner Dan Jones, these two crews will be sure to put in the work this weekend to win on the lake where they did so well recently.
Reading University Boat Club
Known for their sculling prowess, Reading will look to impress at Marlow. Having been extremely successful at BUCS Regatta, the club is aware of where they stand against the other British universities, but this race will give a good idea of how they stand against the clubs that they are likely to face at Henley Royal Regatta and beyond.
Prediction
While these are the three clubs that I think will be pushing for gold this weekend, it is worth mentioning that London RC / Lea RC and Upper Thames RC / City of Oxford are also up there as some of the crews that shouldn’t be overlooked. In terms of the winner, I think that Leander B will take the win, with both Hinksey A and Leander A on their stern, although anything can happen.
