Loughborough University, renowned for its rapid ascent in university rankings and its status as the premier institution for sports in the UK, boasts a strong academic reputation alongside a rowing club that accommodates a wide range of rowing abilities and competencies.
A friendly and inclusive boat club based on the river Soar, Loughborough is an excellent club to introduce novices to the great sport of rowing, as well as to foster the development of senior rowers. With approximately 80 members across senior and novice men’s and women’s squads, there’s a strong and growing community at LSRC. This sentiment is supported by their charitable efforts, such as regularly contributing to events, including Movember and initiatives to raise awareness of breast cancer.
Loughborough’s competitive and sociable nature aligns them with other mid-tier university boat clubs for their access to novice, intermediate and senior rowing squads. This allows students to take up the sport of rowing at their own leisure and decide how intense they want their experience to be. Having this flexibility allows students to thrive on their local circuit, as demonstrated by their strong results at the recent Head of the Dee and Nottingham autumn head, but also take on major events such as Head of the River Race, Women’s Head of the River Race and Henley Royal Regatta with determination and drive.
Pooling resources with the local Loughborough Boat Club provides LSRC with access to a variety of boat classes, giving them the ability to produce strong crews across the board. In addition to this, having access to Nottingham Rowing Club’s GB Start Programme gives LSRC’s athletes the facilities to develop as championship-level rowers, further strengthening LSRC’s capability to cater to their rowers at every level.
