2025 Irish Rowing Championships – Women’s Junior Eights Preview

One of the most anticipated races of the season is set to take place this Sunday at the National Rowing Centre in Cork. With eight highly competitive crews entered and only one trophy up for grabs, it is all to play for.

St Michael’s Boat Club

St Michael’s have had a consistent season, highlighted by their victory in the Women’s 2nd Eight at Lough Rynn Regatta, which shows the depth and capability of their squad. Now, they’re aiming to carry that momentum into the J18 category. After finishing second in this event last year, they’ll be hungry to challenge Enniskillen for the top spot.

With several rowers returning from last year’s crew, there’s no shortage of motivation or drive—but will that be enough to get them over the line first?

Shandon Boat Club

Shandon have shown strong progress this season, particularly in sweep events, taking the win in the J18 Pair at Cork Regatta. Cox Thuy Coleman will need to stay composed and sharp to guide her crew and keep pace with St Michael’s.

Enniskillen Royal Boat Club

This Enniskillen crew comes in with a wealth of experience. Cox Jessica Thompson returns for her third year steering this eight, alongside returning rowers Kate Huddlestone (stroke), Rhea Cartin McCloskey (5 seat), and Eva Johnston (bow). These girls have proven they can move a boat—but can they defend their title and bring home the trophy once again?

Final Thoughts

This promises to be a fast and fiercely contested race. While all crews bring their strengths, Enniskillen’s experience, cohesion, and raw power could give them the edge to narrowly beat out St Michael’s and Shandon at the line.
