31 women from up and down the country are coming together this weekend to race at the British Rowing Championships in Nottingham, a course well known to many. With such a deep field of female athletes, the category will be one to watch.
Leeds RC: E. Baker
Fresh from the semi-finals of Henley Women’s Regatta in the Aspirational single scull, Emily Baker returns to the water in the club sculls. Returning from SMU Texas for the summer, Baker brings back her talent from the sweep boats to transition into the scull for this stacked field. Her international representation at the Home International Regatta in 2023 for England will put her in good standing for the racing ahead of her. She is one to watch in this race.
Newark RC: J. Titterington
With another category already entered for the Championship, Jen Titterington will look to win not one, but potentially two medals throughout her racing. Also coming off the back of her Henley success, Titterington will carry herself with confidence in her abilities against these club scullers and showcase her talent in this event over the weekend.
Bath University: T. Adelaja
Toluwani Adelaja is a newer name to keep an eye on this weekend. With success in the Aspirational Quad Sculls at Henley Women’s Regatta, reaching the quarter finals with her crew, her sculling ability is evident. Bath is known for a strong sculling program, and Adelaja performed incredibly well at BUCS Regatta for the club, coming third on this course. Will the transition back out of the quad into the scull phase her, or will this recent success carry her to a medal at the championships?
Nottingham RC ‘A’: U. Fleming
Performance Development Academy (PDA) athlete Ursie Fleming is another who will be looking to perform this weekend. Reigning champion from the Aspirational Quad Sculls at Henley Women’s Regatta with the rest of the PDA crew, Fleming will be sure to want to add to the success of her season. Knowing the course well will hold her in good preparation for the notorious conditions of the centre, and this knowledge may potentially be the thing that leads her to success.
Predicition
With so many talented athletes entered, it just isn’t possible to write about them all. The scullers from Cyldesdale RC and the other Nottingham RC sculler are my honourable mentions, but my ones to watch this weekend are Titterington and Baker for that first place, although everything is to race for.
