Sunny skies will welcome the racers on the Great Ouse, making it an enjoyable day for everyone. Over the day, many eager crews will take to the water to race the intense 1200 metre race in the hope of winning gold!
Bedford Rowing Club
The junior section of Bedford Rowing Club has had increasing success over the past few years, with numerous medal positions at national events! This clearly shows that their training is paying off, and we could see more medals going to Bedford RC in the next few years. Bedford RC also have the home advantage in this race as the regatta is hosted by their own club. This means they will be well aware of where to make their move to keep the lead over the 1200-meter course. I think this advantage could give them enough of an edge to be the fastest Women’s Junior 16 quad over the course this weekend!
South African Schools Rowing Union
The crew from the South African Schools Rowing Union (SASRU) will be hoping to bring gold back to South Africa after this weekend. SASRU has made the most of their time in the UK as they also competed at the Junior Sculling Regatta, placing a well-earned 18th. I think this makes them a very strong contender for the gold medal on the Great Ouse.
Bedford Modern School Boat Club
Bedford Modern School Boat Club is another rowing club with a rich history of national rowing success, boasting medalists from the junior British Rowing Championships, National Schools Regatta and more. I expect to see Bedford Modern School up there fighting for the medal, as I think the club’s good training will mean that it is well within their abilities to take home the gold medal!
Bedford Girls’ School Boat Club
Boasting one of the most comprehensive girls’ rowing programs, Bedford Girls’ School Boat Club is up for taking the win. Their training program, delivered by an expert coaching team, has led to both national and international success, with medals at the National Schools Regatta and Henley Women’s Regatta. I believe this puts this crew into strong contention for winning gold once again.
Predictions
I expect there to be great rivalry between Bedford Rowing Club, Bedford Modern School Boat Club, and Bedford Girls’ School Boat Club. Due to the fact that they all come into contact often, they will already know who is the fastest crew making racing exciting for competitors and spectators alike! But will the crew from SASRU turn the tables and be a faster crew? I predict that the racing will be extremely close, but Bedford Rowing Club will take the home advantage over Bedford Girls School, followed by SASRU.
