While somewhat overshadowed by the first division of the quads, the second quads will still be sure to provide just as exciting a spectacle and the same opportunity for glory. These athletes are sure to put on a good show, and winning this race will earn them many important points that can be added to the final school rankings. So, let’s see who the main contenders are.
Roseville College
This boat is truly one that brings a range of ages and knowledge to the course. Despite a disappointing race scratch last year, coupled with not appearing at the NSW State Championships, the Roseville crew did place third at the NSW All School Championship in the schoolgirl’s quad, an impressive result. Furthermore, stroke-seat Emily Wang has also raced in the year 10 quad this year, demonstrating the various age groups this crew is composed of. This boat is indeed made up of some of this school’s best rowers; no matter which division they are racing in, they will fight furiously to show their worth.
Redlands School
With two boats entered into this race, Redlands does have a slight competitive edge approaching this showdown, with a fair portion of the field comprising their athletes. Their two crews placed fourth and fifth at the NSW All School Championships, a slight mark-down from placing third last year. Nevertheless, over the past few months, they will certainly have put their heads down with the goal of taking home a medal at one of the calendar’s premier events. Additionally, with such evenly paced crews at the last regatta, it is possible that their top crew could gain some extra pace with some reorganisation.
Canberra Girls Grammar School
Despite taking home silver last year in this race, the lineups produced by Canberra Girls this year have faced their fair share of challenges. At NSW State Championships a month ago, this crew placed fifth in the second heat of the schoolgirl’s quad, unfortunately not advancing to the finals. They will need to show some improvement if they want to be a podium contender. However, with the previous season’s results, and the deep history of rowing at the school, that is definitely possible.
Predictions
Currently, I would have to predict Roseville to take the win, having achieved the only podium of any of the crews in this article this season; however, Redlands, with their two very evenly matched crews, could certainly push their way to the top, particularly if they could find extra speed through seat racing.
