In addition to the Dutch championship for the skiffs, the Dutch championship for the coxless pair will also take place this weekend. This category has fewer registrations, which will not result in a lower quality of crews. Both former Olympians and new talents will participate, so it is guaranteed to be a spectacle.
K.N.R.B
Probably the greatest battle this weekend will be the race between the two national boats that will participate. Veronique Meester and Ymkje Clevering won gold together for the Netherlands in the coxless pair in Paris at the Olympic Games with an exceptionally large lead in one of the regatta’s most dominant performances. The other competitors in this field achieved the same result this weekend at the Olympic Games, although in a different number. Hermijntje Drenth and Tinka Offereins are apparently done with the coxless four, so they are now picking it up in the coxless pair.
Veronique Meester started two weeks ago in the Varsity race for her rowing club Nereus in Amsterdam. The crew in this boat (only Olympians on board, including legendary sculler Karolien Florijn) was supposed to ensure a monster victory, but it failed to reach its potential. Will she manage to leave the past in the past with her former familiar boat category?
Surely, someone has to fill in the third spot on the podium. Below is a small overview of the teams that still have a chance at this bronze medal.
Gyas
One boat that performed well last weekend at the Bosbaan Voorjaars Regatta is the boat of Willemijn Muggen and Marthe Prins. In the women’s elite field, they won with a clear lead of no less than 11 seconds over the number two. With their experience together, the two relatively older ladies can surely leave much of the competition behind.
Laga
Elke Schokking and Lotte Jansen already have long rowing careers behind them, but their inner fires are still burning. Lotte Jansen proved once again that she could row among the other Laga Olympians and take home the Varsity gold medal.
Prediction
In the end, the real battle between numbers one and two will take place between the two Olympic boats. With the Varsity results in mind, it will be no surprise when the coxless pair of Hermijntje and Tinka cross the finish line first.
