The Hollandia rowing competitions will occur on the 18th, 19th and 20th of April 2025 on the iconic Bosbaan. Youth rowers, university rowing clubs and national team athletes compete for the prestigious Hollandia honours and, for some, the Dutch national title. There will be head-to-head races across a 2000-metre distance in a six-lane course.
Development teams are for rowers who are no longer beginners but not yet racing at the elite or national level. This is often for rowers within student/university rowing clubs and develops a rower from beginner to elite level. The men’s coxless four teams are Laga, Theta, Triton, Orca, Aegir 1, Aegir 2, Aegir 3 and Okeanos. In 2024, some teams set to compete in 2025 did not make it to the A-final or even compete in this category. However, Orca made it and finished third with a time of 7:09.96 last year, which was +11.20 seconds slower than first place. Aegir also had two teams last year. Aegir 2 placed second with a time of 7:01.85 which was only +3.09 seconds behind first place. Aegir 1 earnt fourth place with a time of 7:11.32, narrowly slower than Orca. Okeanos placed last in one of the heats with a time of 07:59,75, which was 39,30 seconds behind first place, meaning they did not get into the final. This possibly shows they need to maintain power and endurance in future races to catch up. Laga, Theta and Triton did not compete in this category last year, so it will be interesting to see how well they perform against Aegir and Orca, who have more experience in this race.
For the 2025 race, Aegir has three teams racing and is most likely the strongest contender with previous success in this race. As they are fielding three boats, they are drawing from a larger pool of developed rowers with more internal competition. Orca also tends to produce strong competitors who exceed expectations, so they are also a team to watch. However, Laga could be a wildcard, as this club has a history of excellent performance in Dutch rowing.
