Entries: 6
2024 Champions: Alena Furman (AIN – Belarus)
With the loss of lightweight events at the Olympic Games, the entries for female lightweights in Plovdiv have been decimated. Only the LW1x has attracted any interest, and it will be a straight final between six scullers.
Only one sculler has Olympic experience, Laura Tiefenthaler of Austria. She was tenth in the lightweight women’s double in Paris and also raced at the 2024 World Rowing Championships, finishing sixth in the lightweight women’s single.
Dora Dragicevic of Croatia competed in the light single at the 2023 World Rowing Championships, finishing 16th and she was sixth at the 2024 European Rowing Championships.
Maia Emilie Lund of Norway also raced at the 2024 World Rowing Championships, where she placed tenth, one place better than she achieved at the 2023 World Rowing Championships.
The neutral athlete Mariia Zhovner, the reigning European U23 BLW1X champion, is making her senior international debut.
Also making her international debut is Ireland’s Isobel Clements from Tara Rowing Club. She is stroking Edinburgh University’s first eight and won the British Rowing Championships junior single title in 2022.
The final entry is from Hungary, Eszter Fehervari. She placed 12th in the lightweight women’s single at the 2023 European Rowing Championships and 11th in the BLW1X at the U23 World Rowing Championships that year.
Prediction
Tiefenthaler of Austria in gold, Zhovner in silver, with Lund in bronze.
